The holidays are here! Thanksgiving has passed and now it's time to get ready for Christmas!
This past Thanksgiving I had 18 people over to my house to eat and needed a centerpiece ASAP. I ALWAYS love decorating with fresh cut flowers when I'm hosting anything because they are gorgeous and an easy way to add elegance to any event. I usually go out to my rose bushes, snip off a lot of them and place them in a milk glass vase. Love milk glass but this Holiday season I wanted something special so here is what I did.
Metallic spray painted pumpkin flower centerpiece
...Things you will need...
fresh pumpkin
gold metallic spray paint (I used Vaslpar)
a knife & spoon
scissors
fresh flowers
1.Start out by wiping down your pumpkin then drying it off with a towel
2. On some newspaper outside spray paint your pumpkin and let it dry completely
3. carve your pumpkin by cutting a medium hole around the stem, then take the top off and throw away
4.clean out the inside of the pumpkin with the spoon
5. put some water and flower food in your pumpkin
6. trim your roses diagonally and the length you want
7. arrange them in your pumpkin and enjoy!
---TIPS FOR FLOWERS---
- Buy California grown flowers. When you buy California grown flowers, they were probably in the field 24-48 hours ago. This helps ensure maximum freshness and longer enjoyment.
- Remove leaves. Discard leaves that will be submerged in water. This will decrease bacteria buildup and lead to a longer-lasting bouquet.
- Fill vase with cold water. Cold water slows down blossoming. You can even add ice cubes to your vase water for extra coolness.
- Cut your fresh flower stems to desired length. It’s best to cut them at a 45 degree angle to allow more water to be soaked up.
- Use flower food and change vase water often. Flower food is a must in keeping your flowers fresh, as is changing the vase water every 2-4 days.
- Design your arrangement. Large and dark flowers should be close to the base of the design, and small and light-colored flowers look best on the outer edge.
I love browsing my local farmers market for fresh fruit, veggies and flowers. The flowers are beautiful and so colorful and fresh. The town that I live in has a farmers market every friday night in Old Town Clovis during certain seasons. Many local businesses come together and sell their home grown/home made goodies. It is so wonderful to support these business that are all growing and selling here is California. I think as a Californian it is important to buy CA GROWN! Not only for the yumminess and perfection but because it helps support the California economy and our local communities!! I choose CA GROWN and look for CA GROWN when grocery shopping and YOU can too! If you can't find it when shopping you can always ask your grocers which products are grown in California. Help support those hard working farmers and growers who put a lot of love and work into what you enjoy!

Love that pumpkin centerpiece! Actually, I am planning to make centerpiece with poinsettia and that pumpkin vase will be good to combine the thanksgiving and christmas feel, :-)
